February 27, 2004You do not talk about yeast clubThe only thing that matters today is this. Chaz and I saw the last Broken Lizard installment on OPENING NIGHT. Yes, I am calling you new school. We were all set to see it on it's original opening night, but then some friends of the Bush family flew some planes into some buildings to help boost Bush's approval ratings and Super Troopers was shelved for a few months because of it's references to Afganistanimation and staying loyal to the Taliban regime. Whatever. Club Dread. I'm so there. I made yeast starters last night. I hope they work. I've never made a starter before and, after each step, I would say to myself, "Uhhh ... I guess that's right ..." I'm going to go home at lunch and see how they're doing. --------------------------------------- Back from lunch. I was hoping for more activity than I saw in the jars. The IPA and Red Ale seem to be multiplying nicely, but the stout is lagging. I moved them to the upstairs bathroom and closed the door. With the door closed, that room grows very warm. Just the kind of environmental massaging that some stubborn yeasties need. That, and me standing over them screaming, "IF YOU LITTLE BASTARDS WERE GROWING ANY SLOWER, YOU'D BE SHRINKING!! YOU'RE ABOUT THIS CLOSE TO BEING MUFFINS!! WHEN I SAY GROW, I MEAN GROW!!" Tough love makes tough beer. And beer that is not tough is Zima. Or Hefeweisen.
