Best part of this post:

"I will not reveal the reason why our car was unlocked because I am a gentleman."

You are finally getting the hang of this whole "being married" thing.

Reminds me of an 80s montage tune with the word "running" in the lyrics, but I can't place it.

You did well to help the dog! Hat's off to you.
My husband and I had a similar experience when we found a terrified dog running in the middle of a 6 lane street near our home during a thunderstorm, no collar or tags. We coaxed her into the car and drove to the emergency vet clinic to have her scanned - Of course there was no microchip. Combed the neighborhood hoping to see someone looking for their dog. Brought her home, emailed our neighborhood association with the 'found dog' message, and let Street Dog sleep in our laundry room. found the owner via email at 9 am the next morning. took several emails and she FINALLY called around 3. Apparently it was normal for her dog to escape during thunderstorms because they keep her in the backyard that has a broken fence! And she hadn't called me earlier because it was her birthday and she was celebrating. Are you kidding me? We were happy to have saved the dog, however sorry that we returned her to a home that considered her an afterthought.
